    ✦ Where to Eat

Few other towns feature so many award-winning restaurants, famous chefs or food festivals. The plates can be bone china or paper; the dining rooms can resemble a chateau or a roadhouse. It makes no difference. New Orleans serves up some of the most delicious food on the planet.

✦ How to Get Around New Orleans Without a Car
Many visitors forgo renting a car and instead utilize the city’s myriad of public transport methods. New Orleans may not have the robust public transit schedules of cities like New York or Boston, but the variety of routes and options can take you all over the city – all with the added benefit of not having to find a parking spot.

  • NIVA proudly supports individuals in recovery and we have partnered with Recovery Unplugged to provide you with Sober Support at NIVA ‘24. This includes wellness resources during the conference, as well as daily recovery meetings that will take place twice a day at Embassy Suites.

The 6:00 PM daily meeting is a great place to connect with others who want to hit the town and have some sober companions. We encourage everyone, whether you are in recovery yourself, or want to support a colleague, who finds value in these meetings to attend.

Check out our NIVA ‘24 Recovery Field Guide for more details.

Attendee Safety Guide

Entry Protocols

  • Don’t forget your conference badge! You’ll need it to get into all official NIVA ‘24 events. But, consider removing your badge as you leave conference events to keep your identity secure.

  • Each venue might have its own security checks so be ready for those too.

Personal Safety Tips

  • Look out for your fellow attendees, check in on anyone who seems to need help, and alert staff if extra assistance is needed.

  • Keep an eye on your personal items, and report lost or found items to venue staff.

Preparation Tips

  • New Orleans in June is hot! Remember to stay hydrated and keep cool using the Hydration Stations or bars for water.

  • Carry a list of allergies and medications in case of emergencies

Anti-Harassment Policy

  • We want every fan to feel safe at the conference. We will not tolerate any harassment based on race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, disability, body size, appearance, age or national origin. If you feel like you’re being harassed, are the victim of nonconsensual touching, or otherwise feel unsafe, please report it to the nearest staff member.

Evening Safety Tips

  • Travel in groups, especially at night, and use reliable transportation such as taxis or rideshares. Be sure to verify the vehicle’s license plate and driver before entering.

  • Never leave drinks unattended and don't accept drinks from strangers.

  • Bring earplugs or hearing protection! We get loud at our evening shows.

A Safety Message from the City of New Orleans

“No other city in the world manages special events, crowd control, and visitor safety as well as New Orleans.

New Orleans welcomes millions and millions of visitors each year, and we celebrate like nowhere else with world-class gatherings such as Mardi Gras and dozens of annual festivals and prestigious sporting events. The world's most prominent corporations and associations select New Orleans for conferences and business events ranging from a 10-person corporate board meeting to large association city-wide conventions with tens of thousands of attendees from around the world.

As with any destination, we recommend that vacationers and convention attendees practice common sense and do not wander into deserted, non-tourist areas of the city.”
