Venues are often the early seeds for increased development but are often squeezed out through lost leases, increased property taxes, or noise complaints from housing built up around them. In other instances, cities work with real estate developers to build brand new entertainment districts, but often don’t give local independents a real chance to participate. This panel will discuss strategies to secure the future of independent venues, through land trusts, community benefit agreements, and working with developers to participate in new destination entertainment districts.
