(Sept. 9, 2026) - The National Independent Venue Association (NIVA) announces the first-ever “Live Independent Tour” certification, featuring Los Angeles indie rock quintet Spanish Love Songs. The band’s 19-city tour will visit independent venues exclusively, marking the inaugural tour for the “Live Independent” certification program for tours. NIVA developed the groundbreaking initiative to elevate and safeguard independent venues, promoters, and festivals nationwide by recognizing artists and their tours that route the majority of their dates through independent stages.
The partnership, which comes on the heels of the band announcing their fourth full-length album, Future Nausea, out November 6, and the release of critically lauded lead single “Good American,” (Stream and pre-order HERE) encapsulates the belief Spanish Love Songs have long stood for: that stages such as these are the life-blood of the DIY and independent music scenes.
"Our band was born and grew in independent rooms willing to take a chance on us,” says Frontman Dylan Slocum of Spanish Love Songs. “We're proud to partner with NIVA, the venues, and promoters to put people over profit and work directly with the bands, crew, and fans that keep independent music thriving. Special nights happen in a 250 capacity room where the AC can't quite keep up, the drinks are cheap, the PA is blaring, and nothing in the world matters outside of the people in the room. We always want to be right in the middle of that."
The “Live Independent Tour” certification program, launched in partnership with Spotify, supports independent live entertainment across the U.S., providing resources to help independent venues and the artists who perform there thrive. Initiatives include amplifying independent events, highlighting artist tours through monthly playlist features, and recognizing independent venues through NIVA’s Live Independent seal, launched in partnership with Bandsintown. More than 55 million fans have discovered shows and bought tickets at independent venues and festivals through Live Independent promotion on the Bandsintown platform.
“Independent venues continue to overcome the challenges of an unpredictable market,” says Stephen Parker, NIVA Executive Director. “The Live Independent Tour is a testament to our mission and artists like Spanish Love Songs. Together, the goal is to build and strengthen the independent live entertainment ecosystem where artists, venues, and independent promoters can thrive while creating meaningful fan experiences. We invite every artist to join this movement and choose to route the majority of their tour dates through independent venues.”
"Independent venues are where some of the most meaningful moments in music happen, for artists and fans alike,” says Rene Volker, Senior Director of Live Events at Spotify. “That's why we partnered with NIVA, and we're proud to see the first Live Independent Tour certification come to life with Spanish Love Songs."

NIVA is committed to equity in its support of independent stages. It seeks to create and encourage opportunities for venues, promoters, and festivals owned, operated, and staffed by people of color, women, non-binary, LGBTQ+, veterans, and people with disabilities.
ABOUT SPANISH LOVE SONGS
Since 2013, SPANISH LOVE SONGS have built a fiercely loyal community, one cramped club show at a time. This intimate, powerful connection with their audience is proof that even in an era defined by isolation, people are still yearning for others to stand beside them in the darkness.
That search continues with FUTURE NAUSEA, the quintet’s fifth LP, in which Dylan Slocum’s lyrics chronicle political violence, climate anxiety, late-stage capitalism, and the quiet ways these existential crises seep into everyday life—and, just as critically, how moments of love, companionship, and shared resilience become an antidote to an increasingly uncertain future. FUTURE NAUSEA follows the release of instant classics Schmaltz (2018), Brave Faces Everyone (2020), and No Joy (2023).
